Manacor is one of the largest towns on Mallorca, set on the island's eastern plain. Its centre is a compact knot of old streets around the main church, surrounded by newer districts and ring roads. The wider municipality runs east to the coast, where small inlets, or calas, cut into the rocky shoreline.
The town is known for its artificial pearl industry and as the birthplace of tennis player Rafael Nadal. Its coastal district includes Porto Cristo, a harbour town close to the Coves del Drac, the well-known caves with an underground lake.
