Marechal Cândido Rondon lies in the far west of Paraná, and its map shows a planned town. Wide, straight avenues divide the centre into regular blocks, and the grid extends outward with remarkable consistency before meeting open farmland. The town was settled in the mid-twentieth century, largely by families of German descent who came from southern Brazil, and that heritage remains visible in local festivals, including its own Oktoberfest. It is named after Marshal Cândido Rondon, the explorer known for his work in the Brazilian interior. Agriculture, especially grain and livestock, drives the local economy.
