Mboro lies in the Thiès region of Senegal, a short way inland from the Atlantic coast north of Dakar. The map shows a compact town of sandy streets, with its main roads running inland towards the regional network and out towards the coast through open land.
The town sits in the Niayes, a narrow coastal strip of dunes and low, damp hollows where fresh water lies close to the surface. From above, the landscape appears as a pattern of small plots and tracks, since the Niayes are among the most important vegetable-growing areas in the country, supplying markets across Senegal.
