Medvedevo is an urban-type settlement in the Mari El Republic, adjoining Yoshkar-Ola, the republic's capital. From above it reads as a continuation of the city, with residential streets and blocks spreading westward before the built area gives way to the forests that cover much of the region. The boundary between Medvedevo and the capital is hard to see on the map.
The settlement combines several layers. There are rows of private houses on straight streets, larger apartment blocks, and newer residential developments at the edges. Main roads connect it directly to the centre of Yoshkar-Ola. Beyond the last houses, the land opens into woodland, fields and the river valleys typical of the middle Volga region.
