Section-line grid
Main roads run north–south and east–west at roughly one-mile intervals. They create a large, orderly grid that frames neighbourhoods, orchards and commercial strips.

Mission Map Poster & Print
Mission lies in Hidalgo County at the western end of the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Its map is organised by a large, regular grid of section-line roads spaced about a mile apart, laid over what were once citrus groves and farms. Inside these squares, subdivisions and shopping centres fill the space, while to the south the Rio Grande meanders along the international border.
The city is closely tied to the valley's citrus industry and calls itself the home of the Ruby Red grapefruit. It holds the annual Texas Citrus Fiesta. Along the river nearby, Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park protects native woodland that attracts birdwatchers, and an international bridge crosses toward Reynosa.
A Mission map poster shows a clear contrast. The disciplined grid of roads and field lines covers most of the frame. Near the bottom, the river's irregular loops, oxbow lakes and wooded parkland break it up, turning an agricultural plan into a composition with a strong edge.

Rio Grande loops
To the south, the river winds in tight bends and leaves oxbow lakes behind. It is the only strongly curving line in an otherwise straight-edged plan.
Riverside parkland
Near the river, the state park and wildlife areas appear as open green spaces with very few roads. They soften the southern edge of the city.
