Montesilvano lies on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo, immediately north of Pescara, with which it forms a continuous built-up area. From above the town divides into two parts: a modern seaside district of parallel streets running behind a straight sandy beach, and the old hill settlement of Montesilvano Colle set on high ground inland.
The seaside town grew rapidly in the second half of the twentieth century, when holiday housing and hotels spread along the shore. The Saline river marks its northern boundary, and the railway and coastal road run parallel to the beach, adding two more straight lines to a map already defined by the coastline.
