Monzón is a town in the province of Huesca, in Aragon, set where the small Sosa river joins the Cinca. Its most striking feature is the castle on a steep, isolated hill above the town. Once held by the Knights Templar, it is where the young James I of Aragon spent part of his childhood. The old streets curl around the foot of the hill.
The town also played a political role. Several sessions of the Cortes, the parliaments of the Crown of Aragon, met at Monzón over the centuries, making it a frequent meeting point for the kingdoms of the Aragonese crown. More recently, the town grew as an industrial and agricultural centre on the irrigated Cinca plain.
