Nadi lies on the dry western side of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island, close to a wide bay. On the map, the town looks relaxed and loosely organised. A main road runs through the centre, with smaller streets branching away towards farmland, and the Nadi River meanders through the flat land on its way to the sea.
For most visitors, Nadi is the first stop in Fiji, since Nadi International Airport is the country's main international gateway. The long straight runway to the north is one of the clearest shapes on the poster. To the southwest, the coast breaks into mangroves, inlets and Denarau Island, where the road network turns into curving resort lanes and a marina.
In the town centre stands the Sri Siva Subramaniya temple, one of the best-known Hindu temples in the Pacific and a reminder of the Indo-Fijian community that has shaped Nadi.
