Naucalpan de Juárez borders Mexico City to the north-west and forms part of its vast metropolitan area. From above, the municipality climbs from the flat floor of the Valley of Mexico into the foothills of the mountains to the west, so its layout shifts from dense grids near the Periférico to curving roads and ravines further up the slopes.
Its best-known landmark is the Torres de Satélite, a group of five tall, colourful concrete towers designed by Mathías Goeritz with Luis Barragán to mark the entrance to the new suburb of Ciudad Satélite in the late 1950s. The municipality also contains the Basílica de Los Remedios and a colonial aqueduct with distinctive spiral towers.
