Norcross is in Gwinnett County, northeast of Atlanta, and began as a railroad town in the late nineteenth century. Its oldest streets form a compact grid next to the railway line, which still runs through the centre. Around this small historic core, the map changes character. The town is named after Jonathan Norcross, a former mayor of Atlanta. Its downtown has kept its older buildings and walkable scale, and it is now a historic district with shops and restaurants.
