Novyi Rozdil is a young town by European standards. It was built in the 1950s to house workers for the sulphur deposits in this part of the Lviv region. On a map that origin is easy to see. The streets follow a planned layout of long residential blocks, wide avenues and open courtyards, very different from the winding lanes of older Galician towns nearby.
The Dniester flows close by, and the river valley shapes the edge of the town. The former quarry lands to the south have been partly flooded and reclaimed, so the land around the town looks less even than its centre. Farmland and scattered villages fill the rest of the frame, which gives the town a clear, self-contained outline.

The river runs near the town. Its meanders and floodplain make a softer, looser line against the orderly street pattern of the settlement.
Former mining land
The sulphur workings that gave the town its reason to exist have left water bodies and uneven ground at the edge of the map, marking where industry once was.
