Nūrābād is the main town of Mamasani County in northwestern Fars. It sits where the Zagros folds begin to break up into foothills and valleys. On a map the town is compact, with a central avenue and blocks spreading out onto the level ground. Rows of ridges run in parallel beyond the edges, following the grain of the mountains.
The town lies on the route between Shiraz and the provinces to the northwest, and that road gives Nūrābād its main axis. Newer districts have filled in along it, while the older centre keeps a slightly tighter pattern.
