Pacajá lies in the Brazilian state of Pará, on the Transamazonian highway, the BR-230, between Anapu and Novo Repartimento. Like many towns along this road, it grew up around the highway itself. On the map, the BR-230 forms a firm line through the centre, with blocks of streets laid out on either side.
The town's grid is fairly regular, a sign of relatively recent, planned growth. Around it, straight side roads lead out into farmland and cleared plots. Beyond these, the texture of the land becomes looser, with streams and patches of forest shaping the edges of the settled area.
