Paracuru lies on the coast of Ceará in northeastern Brazil, west of Fortaleza. From above, the map divides cleanly in two: on one side the Atlantic, on the other the town and the sandy country behind it. The coastline is the defining line, a long, gently curving edge where streets end and beaches begin.
The town itself is compact, laid out as a loose grid of short blocks near the sea, with a main road leading inland and newer streets spreading at the edges. Between the built-up area and the open land, the map shows dunes, coastal vegetation and scattered lagoons, a landscape of sand and wind typical of this part of Ceará.
Paracuru is known for its beaches and for the steady trade winds that bring kitesurfers and windsurfers to this stretch of coast, and its Carnival draws visitors from across the state.
