Pārsābād lies in the far north of Ardabil Province, on the Moghan plain close to the Aras River, which marks Iran's border with Azerbaijan. It is a relatively young town that grew with the agricultural development of the plain in the twentieth century. From above, its streets form a regular grid, broad and evenly spaced, unlike the winding lanes of older Iranian towns.
The surrounding plain is flat and intensively irrigated. Canals and field boundaries cover the land around the town in long straight lines. The large Moghan agro-industrial estates made the area one of the important farming regions of north-western Iran. It is known for crops such as wheat and cotton, as well as for livestock.
