Pico Rivera Map Poster & Print
Pico Rivera sits between two water channels. The Rio Hondo runs along its western side and the San Gabriel River along its eastern side, and both show on the map as long, straight lines through the Los Angeles basin. The city's residential grid fills the space between them.
The city was incorporated in 1958, when the communities of Pico and Rivera merged. The street pattern reflects postwar suburban growth: regular blocks of houses, long commercial boulevards running through, and some larger parcels for schools, parks and former industrial land. To the north, the open ground of the Whittier Narrows area breaks up the urban fabric.
This is a place that is easiest to understand from above. The two rivers set clear borders, and the grid runs evenly from one to the other. A Pico Rivera map poster shows that tidy structure, a city defined by its waterways even though they are channelled and mostly dry for much of the year.

To the north, the land opens up into recreation areas and flood-control basins, giving the dense grid a quieter, emptier edge.
Postwar grid
Regular residential blocks and long boulevards fill the city between the rivers, a pattern typical of the suburbs built across the region in the 1950s.
