Prospect Heights lies in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, in Cook County, and was incorporated as a city in 1976. On a map it is mostly residential, with winding streets, cul-de-sacs and generous lots that break from the strict Chicago grid. The Des Plaines River runs along its eastern side and brings a ribbon of wooded forest preserve land into the frame.
The most striking feature from above is Chicago Executive Airport, which the city owns jointly with neighbouring Wheeling. Its crossing runways cut clean lines through the northern part of the map, in sharp contrast to the soft curves of the subdivisions around it.
