Pyawbwe sits in the flat, dry heart of central Myanmar, in the Mandalay Region south of Meiktila. The map shows a town strongly shaped by transport: the main road and the railway run through it from north to south, and the streets form a loose grid on either side. Beyond the town, fields and small villages spread across the plain.
The dry zone is the country's historic agricultural heartland, with a climate much hotter and drier than the coast or the hills.
