Quintero is a coastal town in the Valparaíso region of central Chile, north of Viña del Mar. It occupies a peninsula that shelters Quintero Bay, so the map is dominated by coastline. On one side is a calm curve of bay and beaches, and on the other a rougher, rockier edge meeting the open Pacific.
The town's streets cover the peninsula in a fairly regular pattern, adapting to the slopes and headlands as they approach the water. Small coves and beaches break the coastline into a series of shapes. Across the bay, the industrial port zone of Ventanas appears as a large, distinct area of docks and plants.
Quintero Bay has been known to Spanish navigators since the first expeditions to Chile in the sixteenth century, and today the town is both a seaside resort and part of an industrial coast. A Quintero map poster shows the peninsula in full, a shape that is easy to recognise from above.
