Regla faces Old Havana across the inner harbour of Havana Bay. On the map, the waterfront is the defining edge. The town's compact grid of streets runs down to the shore, while the bay opens between Regla and the historic centre. Docks and industrial land line much of the waterside, and residential blocks fill the ground behind them.
Regla is best known for its church of Nuestra Señora de Regla, which stands near the water and draws pilgrims throughout the year. The town is closely linked to Afro-Cuban religious traditions. For many people, the short ferry ride from Havana to Regla is the most familiar way to arrive.
