Rio Rancho Map Poster & Print
Rio Rancho sits on high desert mesa northwest of Albuquerque, above the Rio Grande valley. It was developed from the 1960s as a planned community, with land sold in advance and streets laid out across huge tracts of open ground. The result is one of the more unusual maps in the Southwest.
In the built-up parts, curving suburban streets, cul-de-sacs and arterial roads fill the space. Farther out, a vast regular grid of streets extends across the mesa, much of it still sparsely developed. From above these gridded lines look like a drawing of a city not yet finished. Intel's large campus is one of the city's major landmarks.
A Rio Rancho map poster captures both the dense suburban core and the ghostly grid beyond it. It is a distinctive piece for residents, for people who moved to New Mexico for work and for anyone interested in how planned towns grow.

Suburban core
Nearer Albuquerque, curving residential streets and cul-de-sacs form denser clusters, clearly different from the wide grid farther out on the mesa.
Rio Grande edge
The city looks east over the Rio Grande valley, and the river corridor forms a natural boundary between Rio Rancho and its neighbours.
