Rojas lies in the north of Buenos Aires province, in the flat farming country of the humid pampa. Seen from above, it follows the classic pattern of towns in the region: a regular grid of square blocks around a central plaza, with the grid ending abruptly where fields begin and rural roads continuing in straight lines toward neighbouring towns.
The town shares its name with the Río Rojas, a modest river that winds across the plain nearby and adds the only real curve to an otherwise geometric landscape. Its origins go back to a frontier post of the colonial era, and it later grew as a service town for the surrounding agriculture, linked by railway to the rest of the province.
A Rojas map poster is an exercise in order. The repeated squares of the town, the straight line of the railway and the large rectangular parcels of farmland outside create a pattern that feels calm and almost architectural.
