Sanxia lies on the southwestern edge of the Taipei basin, in New Taipei City, where the flat valley floor gives way to wooded hills. Its name is linked to the rivers that meet here, and water is the first thing you notice on a map. The Sanxia River curves through town to join the Dahan River, and smaller streams come down from the hills to the south.
The historic centre is small but distinctive. Sanxia Old Street, a row of restored red-brick shophouses with arched arcades, runs close to the river. Nearby stands the Qingshui Zushi Temple, known for its intricate carving. Its rebuilding took several decades under the direction of the painter Li Mei-shu. Around this core, newer residential districts and a university campus spread across the lowland.
South of town the hills close in quickly, and roads follow narrow valleys toward the mountains. A Sanxia map poster frames this meeting of old town, rivers and new districts. Near the river, the narrow Old Street and the Zushi Temple mark the historic core, a small area of fine detail at the centre of the poster.

A newer district with a large university campus and planned residential blocks spreads across the lowland and adds a more regular, open pattern to the map.
