Sé is the parish at the centre of the Macau peninsula, named after the cathedral that stands within it. From above, its northern part is a maze of narrow, winding streets around Senado Square and the Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro, while its southern and eastern edges open onto broad avenues and blocks built on reclaimed land along the water.
Much of the Historic Centre of Macao, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, lies within or next to the parish. Senado Square, with its wave-patterned Portuguese pavement, the Cathedral and colonial-era civic buildings sit a few minutes' walk from casinos and hotels on the newer waterfront.
