Shahdad Kot lies in upper Sindh, in the district of Qambar Shahdadkot, close to the border with Balochistan. From above, the town is a dense cluster of streets and lanes at the centre, surrounded by wide agricultural land. Irrigation canals and field boundaries cross the plain, and the roads leading out of town stretch toward neighbouring settlements and the hills farther west.
The area is known for farming, especially rice, which depends on the canal systems that draw water from the Indus.
