Siuliban lies in eastern Jharkhand, close to the border with West Bengal, in a region shaped by coal mining and industry. The landscape belongs to the eastern edge of the Chota Nagpur Plateau: gently rolling ground, scattered water bodies and a network of roads and rail lines serving the mines and towns of the area.
From above, the town is a patchwork of dense older lanes, looser residential areas and open ground. This pattern is typical of the settlements that grew up around the coalfields over the last century. Roads link it closely with neighbouring towns, and in places the built-up areas run almost continuously from one to the next.
