Mining landscape
Industrial sites and spoil heaps appear as large irregular shapes between neighbourhoods, a reminder that the town was organised around the pits rather than a single centre.

Sorokyne Map Poster & Print
Sorokyne stands in the far south-east of Luhansk region, in the coal-bearing steppe of the Donbas. The town grew around mines, and its map still reflects that: residential districts separated by industrial sites, rail spurs and waste heaps, with long straight roads linking settlements that began as separate pit villages.
Until 2016 the town was called Krasnodon, the name under which it became known across the Soviet Union for the Young Guard, an underground youth resistance group active here during the Second World War. The renaming came under Ukraine's decommunisation laws; the town has been under Russian occupation since 2014.
A Sorokyne map poster shows a town of several parts: planned Soviet-era blocks, older low-rise streets and the broad blank areas of industry between them. Reduced to black and white it becomes a document of a mining landscape, spare and legible, and a way of keeping a place close when it cannot easily be visited.

Planned blocks
Parts of the town follow a regular Soviet layout, with evenly spaced residential blocks and straight streets that stand out clearly against the older quarters.
Steppe horizon
Beyond the edges the map opens into flat grassland and field lines, giving the poster generous empty space around the built-up area.
