Stillwater Map Poster & Print
Stillwater lies on the west bank of the St. Croix River, which marks the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin. On a map the downtown forms a narrow strip along the water with steep bluffs rising behind it. Residential streets spread out on the upland above, in a grid broken by ravines and slopes.
Stillwater is often called the birthplace of Minnesota, as a territorial convention was held here in 1848. The historic lift bridge of 1931 crosses the river from downtown. Traffic now uses the newer St. Croix Crossing, which opened in 2017 downstream.
A Stillwater map poster brings out the unusual shape of a town built into a river valley: the waterfront, the two bridges and the streets climbing above. It suits anyone who knows the St. Croix valley.

Bluff-top streets
Above the narrow downtown, residential grids sit on high ground, their pattern interrupted by slopes and ravines leading down to the river.
