Tadó is a town in the department of Chocó, in western Colombia, on the upper San Juan river. The Chocó is one of the wettest regions in the world, and the landscape shows it: dense tropical forest, fast rivers and steep, green hills. On a map Tadó is a compact grouping of streets along the riverbank, with the water forming its clearest edge.
The town is mainly Afro-Colombian, with cultural traditions closely tied to the river and to mining along its banks. Streets run parallel to the San Juan and up the slopes behind it, and a bridge links the two banks. Beyond the last houses the forest takes over almost completely, with only a few roads and tracks crossing it.
