Hillside terraces
The housing blocks stand on levelled platforms cut into the slope. On the poster, the roads loop around them and create a layered, stepped pattern that shows the terrain.

Tai Wo Hau Map Poster & Print
Tai Wo Hau is a public housing estate in Kwai Chung, in Hong Kong's New Territories, on the slopes between Tsuen Wan and Kwai Fong. From above, the estate is a group of tall residential blocks set on terraces cut into the hillside, connected by winding access roads, footpaths and stairs. Below, the busy roads and the elevated rail line run through the valley.
The estate is served by Tai Wo Hau station on the MTR Tsuen Wan line, which links the area with Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Like much of Kwai Chung, it grew as part of Hong Kong's large-scale public housing programme, which moved hundreds of thousands of people into planned estates in the new towns.
A Tai Wo Hau map poster shows a very Hong Kong kind of urban form: dense towers on steep ground, tight road loops and the green hills rising behind. The neighbouring industrial areas and the container terminals of Kwai Tsing lie close by, and the map captures the contrast between homes on the slopes and the working port below.

MTR corridor
The Tsuen Wan line and the main roads run through the valley below the estate. They form the strongest straight lines on the map and connect the area with the rest of the city.
Green hills
Behind the estate the ground rises steeply into wooded hills. These empty areas on the map frame the dense housing and give the design a clear edge.
