Torredembarra lies on the Catalan coast northeast of Tarragona, on the stretch known as the Costa Daurada. The historic town stands slightly inland on higher ground, while a newer district, Baix a Mar, runs along the shore. From above, the two areas read as separate patterns, joined by streets running down toward the sea.
The old centre is compact and irregular, built around the Castell dels Icart, a Renaissance castle-palace. On the coast, a lighthouse marks the shoreline and a marina shelters boats behind its breakwater. Sandy beaches stretch along the water, and toward the east the protected dunes of Els Muntanyans keep a rare section of this coast free of building.
