Un Chau Estate Map Poster & Print
Un Chau Estate is a public housing estate in Cheung Sha Wan, in the Sham Shui Po district of Kowloon. Like many Hong Kong estates, it is a community of its own. Several residential towers share footpaths, podiums and open spaces, and the flats house thousands of people within a small area of the city.
On a map, the estate appears as a group of building outlines set on rising ground, separated from the busy grid of Sham Shui Po below. The streets of the older district run in straight, tight lines, packed with shops and tenement buildings. Around the estate, the pattern loosens into access roads, footbridges and landscaped spaces between the towers.
An Un Chau Estate map poster is a personal print for people who grew up in these towers, or who still live there. Hong Kong life is often measured by the estate you come from. In black and white, the precise outlines of the blocks and the dense surrounding streets make a surprisingly graphic image.

Sham Shui Po grid
Next to the estate lies the dense, straight grid of Sham Shui Po. Its short blocks and narrow streets make a strong contrast.
Paths and podiums
Walkways, podiums and open spaces link the towers. They show how an estate works as a small neighbourhood of its own.
