Várzea Alegre Map Poster & Print
Várzea Alegre lies in the south-central interior of Ceará, in the semi-arid sertão of northeastern Brazil. The name refers to a várzea, a low, flat stretch of land along a watercourse, and the town's map fits that description. A grid of streets covers level ground, with a central square and main avenues at the centre and edges that soften into open countryside.
The surrounding land is typical of the Ceará interior, with low hills, seasonal rivers and small reservoirs, known locally as açudes, which appear on the map as irregular shapes of water. Rural roads branch out toward scattered farms and villages. In monochrome the town becomes a dense, geometric island in a wide, lightly marked landscape.
A Várzea Alegre map poster speaks to the many people from the Ceará interior who moved to Fortaleza, São Paulo or elsewhere and still come back for holidays and family gatherings. The clean black-and-white design keeps the streets they know at the centre, without adding anything that is not really there.
