Veinticinco de Mayo takes its name from 25 May 1810, the date of the May Revolution that began Argentina's path to independence. From above, the town reads the way many settlements of the Buenos Aires pampa do: a regular grid of square blocks spreading out from a central plaza, streets running straight until they meet the fields. There is little topography to bend the lines, so the pattern stays remarkably even.
Beyond the built-up area the map opens into the flat agricultural plain of the province, divided into long rectangular parcels and crossed by rural roads. Shallow lagoons appear as irregular shapes among the fields, a characteristic feature of this low, slow-draining landscape. Rendered in black and white, the contrast between the tight urban grid and the wide rural pattern becomes the whole composition, with the town sitting like a stamped square on open ground.
