Wādi lies in the Kalaburagi district of northern Karnataka, on the flat, dry expanse of the Deccan Plateau. The town grew up around the railway, and the tracks still dominate the map. Several long lines meet at the junction and spread out across open country, while the town's streets fill the spaces between them.
The region's limestone has long supported a cement industry, and industrial sites with their own sidings and service roads give parts of the map a planned, rectangular look. Residential areas develop more irregularly, with lanes clustering around the station and along the main road.
