Crossroads centre
The town grows around the point where its main roads meet. It is the darkest, densest area of the map, and everything else radiates from it.

Zhigou Map Poster & Print
Zhigou is a town in southeastern Shandong, in the hilly country that lies inland from the Yellow Sea coast. The land here rises and falls in low hills and shallow valleys. On a map, the town gathers where the roads meet, and the pattern of streets thins out quickly into terraced and valley farmland.
Like many towns in rural Shandong, Zhigou has a main street with commercial buildings, blocks of newer housing around it, and small village clusters scattered across the countryside. The roads bend with the ground rather than keeping to a grid, and streams run down the valleys. It is a landscape of work, farms and small settlements rather than landmarks.
A Zhigou map poster is a quiet portrait of rural China, drawn in lines rather than words. For people whose families come from here, the town's shape, its crossroads and nearby villages carry a lot of meaning. In black and white, the curving roads and patchwork of fields turn a local place into a calm and considered piece of graphic art.

Valley roads
Roads follow the low valleys and bend with the terrain. They give the map loose, flowing lines instead of a rigid grid.
Village clusters
Small groups of houses are scattered across the surrounding farmland. They appear as little knots of detail among the open fields.
