Zhoucun is a district of Zibo in central Shandong, on the plain north of the province's hill country. Its name comes from an old commercial town that grew prosperous through trade. Part of that historic quarter has been preserved, and on a map it appears as a patch of narrower, closer streets set into much wider modern avenues.
Around the old core, the district follows the patterns of contemporary Chinese urban growth. Long arterial roads cross at right angles, large residential blocks are laid out as enclosed compounds, and industrial areas sit towards the edges. Rail lines run through the area and connect it to the rest of Zibo and on towards Jinan.
