The main roads follow the valley floor, and the town stretches along them. On the poster they form curved lines rather than straight axes.

Zhuyuan Map Poster & Print
Zhuyuan is in the mountainous northeast of Chongqing Municipality, in the rugged country north of the Yangtze's Three Gorges region. From above, the terrain is what matters most. Steep ridges and deep valleys leave little flat ground, so the town packs its streets into the space the land allows.
The street pattern is irregular. Roads follow valley floors and hillsides, bending with the contours instead of forming a grid. Buildings cluster along these lines, and the edges of the built area are shaped by slopes that are too steep to build on. The land around the town is crossed by winding mountain roads and small watercourses, which appear on the map as thin, meandering lines.
Like many places in this part of Chongqing, Zhuyuan is linked to the wider region by roads that twist through the hills. A Zhuyuan map poster records a town shaped by its mountains. The streets curve, cluster and stop wherever the ground allows, which gives the poster a fluid and organic look.

Mountain roads
Winding roads climb out of the town and through the surrounding hills. Their tight bends add detail and movement to the edges of the map.
Terrain-shaped edges
Steep slopes decide where building stops. This gives the town an irregular outline that follows the land instead of administrative lines.
