Aitutaki is almost an atoll: a small, hilly main island joined by a reef to a chain of low coral islets, called motu. Together they enclose a broad, shallow lagoon in the southern Cook Islands. From above, the whole island forms a rough triangle, and the largest shape on the map is the lagoon, not the land.
Most people live on the main island, where villages line the western and southern coasts and a road loops around the shore. Arutanga, on the west side, is the main village and harbour. In the north, a long airstrip built during the Second World War runs across the flat land. It is one of the straightest lines on the poster.
The lagoon is famous for its colour and its motu, including Tapuaetai, known as One Foot Island. In 1789 William Bligh reached the island aboard the Bounty, shortly before the mutiny. An Aitutaki map poster captures a place that is mostly water, held in shape by a thin, fragile ring of reef and islets.
A wide, shallow lagoon fills most of the triangle. It is drawn as a calm open space bordered by the reef, the motu and the hilly main island.
Small, low islets string along the eastern and southern reef. Each is a separate fragment on the map, and together they form a broken outline around the lagoon.
The long runway in the north of the main island was laid out during the Second World War. It cuts a straight, strong line through the otherwise gentle landscape.

Aiheā Aitutaki
Aitutaki is a destination people plan for years, often for a honeymoon or a milestone trip, and many Cook Islanders abroad have family ties there. The map turns the lagoon into a clean, graphic picture that feels light on any wall.
Personalise the title and subtitle with names or a wedding date, and set the coordinates line. Of the five styles, Blueprint and Classic black & white suit the lagoon's clean shapes, with Noir, Paper and Sand as alternatives. Choose a $9 download or a framed print.
