Ajab Shīr lies in East Azerbaijan province, on the gently sloping plain that runs down from the Sahand massif toward the eastern side of Lake Urmia. From above, the town is compact. A main road crosses it, and a close network of streets surrounds the centre before giving way to orchards and fields.

Roads link the town to Maragheh and Bonab to the south and to Tabriz further north.
