Regular street grid
Long parallel avenues and cross streets give the district an unusually orderly layout compared with the older lanes of central Damascus, and the pattern reads clearly at poster scale.

Seen from above, al-Yarmūk is a compact block of urban fabric on the southern side of Damascus. Its streets follow a largely regular pattern, with long main axes running north to south and narrower lanes filling the spaces between them. The density is striking on paper: building footprints crowd right up to the street lines, leaving very little open ground within the district.
The district grew from a camp established in the late 1950s for Palestinian refugees, and over the following decades it developed into a full urban neighbourhood with markets, schools and apartment blocks. It became one of the largest Palestinian communities in Syria before the fighting of the 2010s left much of it heavily damaged.
An al-Yarmūk map poster records that street pattern in plain black lines, without colour or commentary. For many people it is a way of keeping an exact picture of a neighbourhood that meant a great deal, the blocks and corners of a place as it sits on the map, whatever has changed on the ground.
Long parallel avenues and cross streets give the district an unusually orderly layout compared with the older lanes of central Damascus, and the pattern reads clearly at poster scale.
Buildings fill nearly every plot, so the map shows a fine, close texture of small footprints with few gaps, a direct trace of how the district expanded upward and outward over decades.
The district sits where the southern neighbourhoods of Damascus meet outlying suburbs, so the poster frame catches the transition from compact city blocks to looser development beyond.

People hang this map to keep a family neighbourhood close, to mark where parents or grandparents lived, or to remember a street they grew up on. The black-and-white rendering keeps the focus on the layout itself, calm and legible on a wall.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a family name or a meaningful date, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The map comes as HD digital files for $9 or as a printed poster.
