The river bed
The Dwarakeswar runs as a broad, pale band beside the town. In the dry season its channels split and rejoin across the sand, which draws a loose, braided line at the edge of the map.

Bānkura sits where the Gangetic plain starts to rise into the Chota Nagpur plateau. On a map this shows as a looser, more open pattern than in the delta towns further east. The streets of the town spread along the Dwarakeswar River, whose wide, braided bed runs past the town, and the roads leading out thin quickly into fields, ponds and scattered villages.
The centre is a dense cluster of lanes around the market and the railway, with the station line cutting a firm diagonal through the grid. Away from it, blocks grow larger and irregular and are broken up by water tanks. Many of those tanks show as small, precise rectangles, and they give a Bānkura map poster a distinctive speckled texture.
The district is widely known for the Bankura horse. This terracotta figure with a long neck and pricked ears is made by potters in nearby villages and has become a symbol of Bengali folk craft. The temple town of Bishnupur, famous for its brick and laterite temples, lies within the same district.
The Dwarakeswar runs as a broad, pale band beside the town. In the dry season its channels split and rejoin across the sand, which draws a loose, braided line at the edge of the map.
Dozens of small rectilinear water tanks are scattered between the streets. In black and white they read as crisp blocks of solid tone set among the finer lines of lanes and paths.
The rail line crosses the town at an angle and splits the older market quarter from the newer residential areas. It is the one long, straight stroke in an otherwise organic street pattern.

Aiheā Bānkura
For people from Bānkura, the map is a reminder of home: familiar lanes, a river bed walked across in summer, the road toward the hills. It suits anyone with ties to western Bengal and its craft traditions, especially those who now live far from the red soil.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a family name, a wedding date or simply the town's name in Bengali script. Then choose one of five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, to suit the room it will hang in.
