Barnstable spans the full width of Cape Cod. On a map it runs from the long sand spit of Sandy Neck and the salt marsh behind it on the north shore down to a broken southern coastline of inlets, harbours and small peninsulas facing Nantucket Sound. Between them, the Mid-Cape Highway cuts east to west through wooded ground scattered with round freshwater ponds.
It is a town made of villages rather than a single centre. Hyannis, Centerville, Osterville, Cotuit, Marstons Mills and others each keep their own cluster of lanes, and the street pattern shifts from the denser grid near Hyannis Harbor to looping roads that follow the shoreline and pond edges. From above, the outline looks less like a town and more like a piece of coastline.
Hyannis is the Cape's main commercial hub and a ferry port for Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, and Hyannis Port is known for the Kennedy family compound. A Barnstable map poster shows both coasts in one frame: the quiet northern marsh, the busy southern harbours, and the ponds that fill the land in between.

Dozens of rounded ponds left behind by retreating glaciers are scattered across the interior, giving the middle of the map an irregular, spotted texture between the winding roads.
Hyannis, Lewis Bay and the inlets around Osterville and Cotuit break the Nantucket Sound shore into coves and small peninsulas, with streets packed close to the waterline.

Aiheā Barnstable
For people who summer on the Cape, grew up in one of its villages or took the ferry from Hyannis every year, this map holds a specific stretch of coast. It works well in a beach house, and just as well far inland as a reminder of the place.
Add the name of your village or a family surname to the title, a year in the subtitle, and keep or edit the coordinates line. Pick Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand in particular suits the dunes and marsh.
