Baykal’sk sits on the southern shore of Lake Baikal in Irkutsk Oblast, on a strip of land between the water and the slopes of the Khamar-Daban range. The Trans-Siberian Railway runs along the shore here, and the town lies beside it. On a map the whole place is shaped by that setting: a settlement pressed into a band of flat ground, with the deepest lake in the world filling the frame to the north.
For decades the town was defined by its pulp and paper mill, a long-running source of controversy because of its effect on Baikal's water, which finally closed in 2013. Since then Baykal’sk has turned toward tourism, above all the ski slopes of Gora Sobolinaya just above town. On the map, the old industrial site, the residential blocks and the ski area appear as separate zones along the shore.
A Baykal’sk map poster is for those who know the town from winters on the slopes, summers at the lake, or years of living there. The composition is strong in black and white: the long curve of the shoreline, the rail line alongside it, the town between them, and the mountains rising to the south. It reads immediately as a Baikal place.
The southern shore of Lake Baikal forms the northern edge of the map, a long clean curve with open water beyond. It is the line that gives Baykal’sk its whole orientation and sense of place.
The railway runs parallel to the lakeshore, tracing a firm line between town and water. It is part of the famous route across Russia and one of the clearest features on the page.
To the south the land rises into the Khamar-Daban range, where the ski area of Gora Sobolinaya stands above the town. The terrain closes the map in and sharpens its narrow, lakeside shape.

Aiheā Baykal’sk
Few places combine a great lake, a famous railway and mountains in a single small frame. Hung on a wall, the map of Baykal’sk keeps all three in view and serves as a reminder of a ski season, a summer on the shore or a home at the edge of Baikal.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, whether a date, a trip or a family name. Pick from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint works especially well with the large expanse of lake.
