Bronkhorstspruit lies in Gauteng, east of Pretoria, on the open grassland of the Highveld. The town takes its name from the Bronkhorstspruit stream, and the Bronkhorstspruit Dam lies to the south, one of the largest bodies of water on the map. The area has a notable past: an early battle of the First Boer War was fought nearby in December 1880. Today, the town is also known for the Nan Hua Temple, one of the largest Buddhist temples in Africa.
