Castro is the capital of Chiloé Province, on the eastern side of Chiloé Island in southern Chile. It sits on a hill above a long, sheltered inlet, and from above the town spreads across the slopes, with streets descending toward the water. The irregular coastline of the inlet, with its small bays and points, gives the map a strong and distinctive shape.
Founded in 1567, Castro is one of the oldest towns in Chile. It is known for its palafitos, wooden houses built on stilts along the shore, and for the Church of San Francisco, a large wooden church on the main square that forms part of the UNESCO-listed churches of Chiloé. Both are closely tied to the island's tradition of timber building.
A Castro map poster captures a town shaped by water and slope: the sweeping lines of the inlet, the central square near the waterfront and the streets rising behind it. In black and white, the coastline dominates and the rows of palafitos appear as fine marks along the shore. It is a map for travellers and for anyone with ties to Chiloé.

Wooden stilt houses stand along the water's edge in several parts of town, a traditional form of building closely associated with Castro.

Aiheā Castro
Castro stays in the memory of those who visit Chiloé, and it is home to many who carry its stilt houses and wooden churches with them. A map of the town and its inlet is a calm, personal way to keep that place close.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with the date of a trip or a family name. You can choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper suits the island's soft, rainy light.
