Te mape
Clinton Township lies in Macomb County, northeast of Detroit, and its map is shaped by the square-mile survey grid that organises much of southeast Michigan. Major arterial roads run at regular intervals, dividing the township into large squares filled with curving subdivision streets, cul-de-sacs and shopping centres. The Clinton River cuts diagonally across this grid, following its own course toward Lake St. Clair.
The township is one of the most populous in Michigan, and it grew rapidly as a suburb in the decades after the Second World War. Gratiot Avenue, one of the historic radial roads from downtown Detroit, passes through it on its way northeast. Mount Clemens sits alongside it, and Lake St. Clair lies a short distance to the east.
A Clinton Township map poster shows a very American pattern: the strict geometry of the mile roads, softened by the loops and curves of residential subdivisions and the meandering river. Seen together, the layers make a surprisingly intricate and balanced composition, one that rewards a closer look for anyone who knows its streets.
Straight arterial roads spaced one mile apart divide the township into regular squares, the framework inherited from the original land survey of the region.
The river winds across the township on a diagonal, ignoring the grid, and its green banks and parks form a soft line through the suburban fabric.
Inside each square, curving streets, loops and cul-de-sacs fill the space, giving the map a fine, patterned texture typical of post-war suburban development.

Clinton Township is where many Detroit-area families bought their first homes. A map of the neighbourhood marks a childhood street, a house purchase or a move, and it makes a thoughtful housewarming gift for new neighbours or for relatives who have moved away from Michigan.
