Te mape
Colcapirhua sits on the level floor of the Cochabamba valley in central Bolivia, a few kilometres west of the regional capital. From above it looks like part of one continuous urban area: blocks of housing run straight into neighbouring districts, with no hard edge between them. The flat ground has let the streets settle into a mostly regular grid, broken here and there by older rural lanes that still follow the lines of former fields.
The town belongs to the metropolitan corridor that stretches from Cochabamba towards Quillacollo, and the main road linking them is the strongest line on the map. Smaller streets branch off it at right angles and fill the space in between. Along the edges, open plots and irrigated land show up as pale gaps between denser blocks, a reminder that much of this valley was farmland only a generation or two ago.
A Colcapirhua map poster makes this in-between character easy to read. In clean black lines, the long arterial road, the tight residential grid and the leftover field patterns sit side by side, and the loose edges show how the town merges with its neighbours. The high ridges of the Cordillera del Tunari lie beyond the northern edge of the frame, but their influence is visible in the channels and streams crossing the valley towards the south.
The main road west from Cochabamba runs through the town as a strong, steady line, with residential streets branching from it in both directions and tying Colcapirhua into the wider metropolitan area.
Because the valley floor is almost level, most blocks form a regular grid. Irregular lanes appear where older field boundaries and irrigation paths survived as the town grew around them.
Small watercourses coming down from the northern mountains cut across the street pattern, and scattered open plots leave pale patches that break up the denser built-up areas.
