Floriano stands on the right bank of the Parnaíba River, the long waterway that divides Piauí from Maranhão. From above, the town is shaped by that bank. Streets run parallel to the river and cross streets climb gently inland, making a loose grid that thins out into farmland and dry scrub. On the far bank sits the smaller town of Barão de Grajaú, so the map reads as a pair of towns with the river between them.
The town is named after Floriano Peixoto, the second president of Brazil, and grew as a trading point on the river in southern Piauí. On paper, the Parnaíba is the widest and calmest element. Its broad band sets the scale for everything else, and the bridge to the Maranhão side is one of the few lines that cross it. The rest of the drawing is fine street texture that fades toward the edges.
A Floriano map poster keeps that relationship between river and grid at the centre. The fine lines of the blocks sit against the wide pale shape of the water, and roads leave the town in several directions across open country. It suits a slightly wider frame, so the opposite bank and the bridge fit inside the picture and the town keeps its riverside setting.
The river's wide band runs along the town's edge and forms the state border. It is the most prominent shape on the map, and the town's blocks are laid out along it.
A single crossing links Floriano with Barão de Grajaú on the opposite bank. It is a thin line spanning the water that joins two states on one sheet.
The regular blocks near the river become looser toward the outskirts, where roads fan out into the dry interior of southern Piauí.

Aiheā Floriano
People who grew up along the Parnaíba often remember the river first and the streets second. A print of Floriano puts the two together as they actually sit, which makes it a natural gift for someone who has moved to a coastal city or abroad and misses the view across to Maranhão.
You can change the title, add a subtitle such as a family name or a year, and keep or edit the coordinates line. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The HD files cost $9 and come in six print sizes.
