Fouchana is in Ben Arous Governorate, on the southern side of the Tunis metropolitan area. From above, it is a place in transition. Blocks of housing and small commercial streets have grown along the main roads, while plots of farmland and orchards still fill some of the space between neighbourhoods. The ground is mostly flat, so the town spreads outward in several directions without a single dominant centre.
Like many suburbs around the capital, Fouchana has grown quickly in recent decades as people have moved in from the city and from other regions. Its position close to Tunis, with road connections to the south, has made it both a residential area and a place of small industry and trade.
